TOYS AND BANKS

702229     Antique Horse or Donkey Wood & Compo Late 1800s Rough

This early gray horse or donkey is probably part of a Christmas Creshe setting or large Noah's Arc, or is maybe just a toy. It is very well made with some type of molded composition and wood legs. It has a nice deep gray finish with dapple gray on the back and a black mane. The tail was made with a twisted rope fabric painted over gray. One leg is broken and the nose has a chip-out. The position of the ears is what makes it look a bit like a donkey. It still stands nicely and would be a nice addition to an animal collection whether a farm, an Arc or Creshe scene.

702228     Metal Pig Black Finish 1 1/2" x 2 1/4"

Cute black pig measuring 1 1/2" by 2 1/4". This almost feels as heavy as a lead soldier, so it is probably made of some metal covered with a thick coat of paint or some other material. He is molded to a stand much like the lead soldiers are made. The mold has nice detail. He has a pink nose and gray paint on the ears. The condition is good, but the mold seam is a bit prominant on the pigs rear end.

702225     Metal Toy Buffalo Germany 2 1/4" x 3 1/2" Great Detail

This toy metal buffalo would be great in a Western scene. It is only marked Germany on the underside. I do not know what type of metal this is possibly cast aluminum, white metal, or some type of pot metal. It is a rather heavy material whatever it is. It has brown paint and yellow-brown eyes. Some paint is wearing away and one horn is bent in a little, which could meat it is the white metal painted over. He has nice detail with long hair on the front legs and a beard. The back legs do not have the thick molded hair. This could be pre-1920 as it does not used the words "Made In" describing the origin which normally indicates an earlier date of manufacture. This buffalo measures 2 1/4" high and 3 1/2" long.

702221     Celluloid Indian Rhino 2" x 4" Viscoloid Co

This is a 2" by 4" Indian rhino made by Viscoloid Company in Leominster, Massachusetts, around 1915 or so. This has wonderful detail with accurate and realistic features. The animal has their Made in USA mark, one of 4 marks for that company shown on page 268 in the book Celluloid by Lauer & Robinson. This is the 2" size measuring from head to hoof and is one of 2 different sizes shown on page 192 in that book. The condition is very good for the age. There is a small crack on one leg but is still fairly stable and does not affect the animal's ability to stand.
